In Room Zero time does not move in a linear manner. It is always zero o'clock. Two young boys float opposite one another, based on real-life photos of a great grandson and his great grandfather. They meet each other as children, and their ancestral connection is visibly present as a stream of flying birds, connecting the third eye of the ancestor with the eyes of the descendant. In our linear timeline ancestral knowledge can manifest as a feeling deep within us, in Room Zero we can see it clearly, even if we can't understand it.

Room Zero is a collaboration between myself and Ivarti Ahau. We were given a room in the Umbrales for Tiempo (Gateways through Time) exhibition, which took place in a swimming pool from the 1940’s that was about to be demolished to create a new arts district in La Roma, Mexico City. We created an immersive installation by covering the walls, floor, and ceiling in mural art and installing sculptures.
